what is "climate change" and who is telling the truth about it?
There has been a lot of noise about "climate change" in the news, but I haven't seen much clarification. I've seen people on both sides of the issue mocked, the global report on it attacked for something about glaciers not melting fast enough and all kinds of nonsense. But there was the President and every leader of every country in Denmark a month or two ago, talking about how it's time to act. (Of course, nobody acted.)
But what do people mean when they say "climate change" - how much is bad? And seriously, who's telling the truth? Is it a bunch of scare tactics from environmentalists, or is it businesses trying to hide the truth? Can journalists tell us who's being honest or not?
I am by no means a scientist or a scholar on this subject but I will give this a shot.
Climate science is fact, there are a few things we may have learned in high school that will explain the process.
Natural and man made forces on earth produce Carbon Dioxide and other gases. These gases get trapped in the atmosphere and effectively trap heat along with them.
The Earth has a natural way of dealing with these gases, photosynthesis, Trees, plants, algae and the like take in the Co2 and turn it into oxygen.
Man has done a pretty good job of removing much of the forests on the earth, and has altered many ecosystems and land through population increases and industry that the earths natural process of removing the gas is largely reduces or hampered.
Couple that with mans ability to dig up fossil fuels (made of pure carbon) an burn them to make energy, this releases Co2 gas into the atmoshpere.
So we have man burning fuel that releases Co2 gas in to the atmosphere, the earths natural ability to clean the air is diminished, and the left over gas gets trapped in the atmosphere which traps heat and increases global temperatures.
This is fact, and cannot be disputed.
Now there is much dispute on the severity of the issue, how to combat it, how long it will take to alter temps enough to have an affect on human life, glaciers, and the rest.
But the science is real, the need to alter our course is real, we just have to have the guts to do it, is not for the added bonus of getting off of foreign oil...
Thanks,
TJP
